While essential oils cannot cure anxiety or depression, they’ve been shown to help lower the symptoms and stress levels and offer relief. If so, you might be wondering what essential oils help with anxiety.

I don’t know about you, but if there’s a healthy way without side affects that I can lower my stress levels and relieve some anxiety I might be having in moments I have to be productive or present, I’m all in!

1. Frankincense

Many who practice meditation or yoga like to use Frankincense for it’s relaxing and focusing affects on the mind. Mix with Cedarwood or Sandalwood essential oils to make set an especially meditative mood.

If you’re wondering what essential oils help with anxiety, Frankincense might be the place to start. The great thing about investing in Frankincense is that it has many other uses, as well! You’ll be glad you added this to your collection early on.

2. Lemongrass

Inhaling a few drops of Lemongrass essential oil has been shown to reduce anxiety and tension and help with recovering from stress!

Mixing with a deeper scent will make the affect of this oil even more calming.

3. Clary Sage

Clary Sage works well on relaxing muscles and calming or balancing hormones. Women will use this essential oil when pregnant or menstruating. Clary Sage could even reduce cortisol levels, the stress hormone, or work as an antidepressant!

4. Bitter Orange

Bitter Orange essential oil can help with anxiety and sleep. It’s been found that those who inhale the orange oil were able to reduce the antidepressants they took and it supported their endocrine and immune system. I’ll try it!

5. Basil

Basil has a high content of Linalool, also found in Lavender and coriander, which gives off a floral aroma known for reducing stress.

Mix Basil with Bergamot oil for a relaxing or with citrus oils for a calm focus.

6. Lavender

Lavender is the most widely known scent for relaxation, and for good reason! Furthermore, with a high content of linalool, lavender has a natural calming affect, great for aiding with sleep.

Mixing Lavender with deeper scents like Frankincense will calm and instill peace. Mixing with lighter citrus scents will create focus while lifting your mood.

7. Chamomile

Chamomile is a scent I like to use to relax and calm down before bed. It’s a base note, good for mixing with lighter oils, and has grounding affects. This oil could also have antidepressant affects, thanks to it’s calming characteristics.

Mix with a little of Lavender and Geranium for a beautiful floral blend.

8. Bergamot

Bergamot has a signature bright and fresh smell, therefore, it is especially good at brightening the mood and lifting spirits.

If you’re thinking about what essential oils help with anxiety, your thinking is already in the right place– to work with natural techniques for feeling better. All you need is a few good go-to blends like this Bergamot blend: When you’re feeling overwhelmed or defeated, mix with Vanilla or Neroli essential oils.

9. Geranium

Geranium is floral and quite exuberant making it perfect for setting an uplifting and balancing mood.

Mix with deeper scents that tend to be calming and grounding, like Vetiver or Patchouli. This creates a very light and relaxing ambiance.

10. Vetiver

Being a base note, Vetiver can slow you down, make you feel grounded and calm you. Vetiver can relax muscles and make breathing easier.

12. Ylang Ylang

Ylang Ylang could help lower cortisol levels, the stress hormone, blood pressure, and stress!

Diffuse or use inhalation method. Ylang Ylang blends well with Bergamot and Lavender.

13. Neroli

Neroli, another floral scent, is also lovely when blended with Lavender. Try blending with Bergamot and Vanilla for a more subtle, less floral, calming environment.

Again, have fun with it! You’ll begin to learn which types of oils you like and which blends work for what. If you’d like to try blending on your own, remember to blend a lighter note oil and deeper note oil. It will turn out to be fuller, well-rounded, and more appealing to your schnoz. 😉
