It’s starting to feel like fall! Ingredients like pumpkin, apples, squash, and cinnamon bring a certain excitement for the season. The colors on our plates start to resemble the changing of leaves- burnt orange, a soft brown, olive green, and cardinal red. The cooler nights inspire warming spices, like cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and cumin. Ready for some spicy and savory Fall food?
Classic Comfort Food:
With cumin, paprika, parsnip, pepper, cayenne and onion, this will have you looking for the chilled breeze, huddled campfires, apple orchards, and rustling leaves of Fall. Okra, carrots, asparagus, and green beans set a great veggie base for a satisfying, nutrient-packed meal.
My dad made this soup the other night..and it was amazing. It’s as creamy as a squash or potato soup– without the cream! We ate the whole batch in just a couple days and made a double batch a few days later. Kohlrabi, carrots, russet potatoes, onion, cumin and turmeric (we substituted ginger in place of the turmeric, because that’s what we already had) pack nutrition and vitamins into one creamy little bowl, boosting your immunity just in time for the chill of Fall.
Munchies and Crunchies:
Orange peel, cinnamon sticks, and rosewater throw a spin on traditional homemade applesauce. They even throw a few extra tips in for improved taste! Another reason to roam the beautiful apple orchards of autumn.
