Aromatherapy Benefits – 6 More!

Supports Immune System

Holistic health often points to the fact that preventing the disease is far more successful than treating a disease or sickness. Most medical professionals agree, even if conventional medicine isn’t always focused on prevention.

Some essential oils can boost your immune system and protect you from harmful bacteria with antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-microbial properties. When diffused, these oils also work as an antiseptic, ridding the air of bacteria, fungus, and mold that can contribute to coughing, sneezing, and congestion. These essential oils can reduce fatigue that’s associated with depression. Citrus oils can not only reverse stress-induce immunosuppression, but they can improve mental health by raising activity in the olfactory system. All these benefits support a healthy homeostatic balance.

Oregano, Frankincense, Peppermint, Cinnamon, Lemon, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Myrrh, and Tea Tree essential oils are the essential oils that can support your immune system as well as help you overcome sinus infections, allergies, colds, the flu or coughs, and fatigue.

Headaches

Many of us turn to drugs to cure our headaches, no time for a headache hindering our productivity! But processing so many drugs could be harmful and exhausting to our body. Aromatherapy is a natural, less intrusive way to find relief from headaches during the day. For this reason, they could even reduce the potential source of your headaches– stress, anxiety, sleep, etc.

Some of the common essential oils for reducing migraines and headaches are Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, and Sandalwood. After diluting with a carrier oil like Almond oil or Avocado oil, you can run these essential oils onto your temples, neck, or scalp for more direct relief.

Skin Health

There are many aromatherapy benefits that can help with skin conditions, from reducing inflammation caused by bug bites or cuts, rashes, fungus like athlete’s foot, dandruff, acne, cellulite, or to help with healing any wounds.

What you can do is dilute the 10-20 drops of the oil into a spray bottle with 4 ounces of water and spray onto the skin. You can also rub a diluted amount topically. Tea Tree oil is great for helping with skin problems, because it’s anti-fungal, antibacterial and antiseptic. Lavender, Juniper Berry, Clary Sage, Orange, Lemon and Frankincense are also great for skin.

Improves Libido

Essential oils have a long history of treating sexual dysfunctions, increasing energy by raising blood flow, and improving libido. Aromatherapy that have shown to help with this are Clary Sage, Geranium, Rosemary, Ylang Ylang, Sandalwood, and Neroli.

Relieves Pain

Just like most pharmaceuticals, pain-relievers have many side affects that range from irritating to dangerous. Aromatherapy benefits can provide the same relief without any side effects! Essential oils can help with tense muscles, achy joints, headaches, or inflamed tissue injuries.

Lavender, Chamomile, Ginger, Myrrh, Clary Sage, Juniper, Eucalyptus, Orange, Rosemary, and Peppermint are among the top essential oils used for pain. You can inhale these or apply them topically to help!

Regulates Sleep

This is one of the most commonly used aromatherapy benefits. Unfortunately, sleep can be a problem for many of us. You might struggle with insomnia, hot flashes in the middle of the night, anxiety, or restless leg syndrome. Not getting enough sleep can be the start of a long line of problems.

Essential oils can help us naturally feel sleepy and get the rest we need. We can use them to regulate our sleep cycles and patterns and encourage us to fall asleep or wake up at regular times.

Lavender, again, leads the oils that provide help! Following Lavender is Chamomile, JasmineNeroli, Rose, Sandalwood, Sweet Marjoram, Vetiver and Ylang Ylang. Diffuse any of these in your bedroom for about an hour before going to sleep.

Try These Aromatherapy Benefits For Yourself

Go ahead– try them! I don’t get headaches often, but I can’t wait to see how this might help me when I’m tired, sick, or breaking out. Most importantly, use essential oils safely! Remember to always dilute with a carrier oil before applying or spraying these oils onto your skin. Essential oils are natural, but very potent and must be used safely. Therefore, if you buy a new oil, test it on a small patch of skin for 24 hours before using it anywhere to see if you react negatively to the oil.

Finally, here are some carrier oils that have great skin benefits:
